The brand name

A Khipu was a method used by the Incas and other ancient Andean cultures to keep records and communicate information using string and knots, is an intricate system of knotted strings of various colors that store and convey information.

Khipu literally translates to “knot” in Quechua

Many ancient Andean cultures used this knot system, including the Inca. Sometimes referred to as “talking knots,” they served as a writing system. Made from cotton or camel fibers, khipus were portable making it easy to transfer information over distances and store over time.

In recent years scholars have also challenged the traditional view that was merely a memory aid device and go so far as to suggest that khipu may have been progressing towards narrative records and so becoming a viable alternative to the written language just when the Inca empire collapsed.

Indigenous Social Entrepreneurship

Indigenous art represents to the native people an opportunity to preserve an integral livelihood and alternative to industries that threaten to undermine these communities.

The work of these artisans represents a connection to their ancestry that spans millenniums, with the power to create different cultures and break a cycle of prejudice and discrimination.
